Breathing Wilderness captures vignettes of the Boreal forest, a climate collapse threatened biome using a 16mm motion picture camera. The camera's framerate is manually controlled in synchronization with the artist's breath resulting in slow/fast motion and exposure changes. This gesture draws focus to the human perception and viewpoint within natural spaces, the inhale/exhale lifegiving processes plants provide, as well as a foreboding tone acknowledging the fragility of the forest. The film is backed with audio of an abnormal inhale/exhale cycle due to the film's framerate fluctuations. This pattern references calming breathing exercises, but instead provides an unsettling cycle to follow.
