Sound Composition, 2008 //.
Sound Composition, 2008 is a further exploration into the sterility of the gallery atmosphere. It expands upon ideas in my past Black Book, 2007 project, and is part of an ongoing body of work based upon neutral gallery objects. This project explores the absurd nature of interacting in a gallery space and general "do not touch" attitude defining the character of those spaces. A seemingly generic sound piece is played through headphones at a volume that is inviting to the viewer. When the viewer attempts to interact with the headphones An excruciatingly high frequency pitch is emitted from the headphones. This action admonishes the viewer to refrain from touching the artwork. The project was programed in MAX/MSP and uses an I-PAC physical computing interface.
